Again, I am at work. Our occupancy is only supposed to get up to 24% today which means I have a lot of time to do a lot of nothing. After today I will not be back at work until saturday. It's like a mini unpaid vacation. Then Sunday I drive out to Dallas to go see Kris and catch an Eric Hutchinson show. I am also taking two girls from work who have never seen him perform live. I'm pretty sure I will be doing the driving. It's a 5 hour drive and I have the GPS. My car gets horrible gas mileage but whatever. It will be a fun time and I will get to spend some time with some girls I hardly hang with.
OK, it's now December 7th.
Last night I did the drive to Dallas, TX with my friend Kristen that I work with and her sister Kathy. It sprinkled about 92% of the way there. But the good thing was that there were not very many cars out. I had never been to the House Of Blues Dallas before so of course we set up Betty ( the gps system) to get us there. She had us take I-45 N. all the way up to Lamar street then follow Lamar down to the House of Blues. Super easy.... until we found the one way streets and passed the venue, three times. Wah wah! We knew it was across from Dick's Last Resort but we never saw it. We finally got there around 2:00. We were worried about parking because we didn't know what would be the safest thing to do. We ended up parking out front and eating lunch at the HOB. Then at around 4 Oclock we went back out to pay the valet service so they wouldn't tow the car! That would have been an interesting added factor in the trip. Doors didn't open until 7pm and we were done with lunch at 4pm and needed something to do.Our waitress was nice enough to let us know that there was an AQUARIUM nearby. So we walked over to that. It was only one block from the venue! Perfect! By the time we found the front door to the Aquarium it was 4:15 and they closed at 5:00pm. We decided to do it anyway! Boy am I happy we did! We saw all sorts of strange fish and seahorses! They even had toucans and snakes and MONKEYS! Kristen was very determined to take a monkey home. I'm sure House Of Blues would have made us keep it in the car. They had this section just for sharks. It was terrifying! It was a tunnel and you walk through and the sharks surround you. But it was pitch black and they just came in out of no where. Unfortunately, if you wanted to go any further in the aquarium you had to go through it. I finally took a deep breath and ran as fast as my legs would take me, when I got to the other side my heart was beating extremely fast and I was on the verge of tears. I have never really been a fan of sharks. I think they are beautiful and don't wish they were all dead or not on earth, I just don't like them near me. We finished up the aquarium adventure in the girt shop. The gift shop had an outdoor penguin exhibit. They were so cute. I think they were loving the weather. Just hanging out and chillin. Before we left Kristen had her little heart set on this pen that was a shark with googly eyeballs. It really made the trip for her. She used it all the time. I'm so glad she picked it up. I was crushing on a stuffed Otter. Otter's are my favorite animals ever. I love them. That's about all we did at the aquarium this trip.
After the aquarium, we walked back to the House Of Blues. People were already lined up for the act in the big room. That night it was Trivium. We were a little confused because there was only one entrance and two rooms. The valet guys there were SUPER helpful and explained to us where to stand and when we would be let in. They also told us we could go inside and hang out while we waited for doors so we wouldn't freeze to death in the rain and cold. People finally started lining up for Eric around 6:45pm. The first people to show up was a girl named Emily and her parents. Her dad was really silly. Emily had never seen Eric before so of course told her she was in for a treat. I even told her parents that they should stick around, I knew they would enjoy him also. He is quite family friendly in his music. I also haven't heard him swear in a while. Hahaha. There were two girls behind us. I didn't get around to asking their names though. They had never seen Eric but one of their sisters had and suggested they come out and see him. I didn't see them after the show. I hope they had fun. I'm sure they did. We stood out in the rain for a bit, but not to long. Once all the Trivium people were filed into their part of the venue they let us in to wait in the dry.
The ticket taking and going in went so smooth. I have a habit when I go to concerts to stand in front of the stage to the left. For Mraz, in front of Bruce. For Bob, in front of Plank or Billy. This time I stood in front of the new gentleman in the band. His name is Elliott (like the dragon for Pete's Dragon!) and he sang back up vocals and and played piano and guitar. The opening act was a girl named Jessie Frye. She played piano and sang. She had a man with her to that played guitar with her on some of her songs. I think if I wasn't so close I may have enjoyed her a bit more. It was hard to understand her. She seemed like she could be much better than what she was. I don't think it will be the last time I see her.
Eric and the band came out to the drum roll you hear before a movie starts. Just hopped on stage and right into the song. He started off with You've Got You. Lot's of energy. I saw Daryl and another guy crawling around the stage during the first song a lot. Turns out they were having speaker problems. You couldn't tell in our systems though. They eventually got it fixed I guess. During Oh! Eric had us do an Oh off. I think the side I was not on was much louder than my side. Everyone was smiles when we joined our Ohs for the final time. We sounded great. He played Sad Songs for us. It has gotten... smoother since the last time I heard it. I think I am liking it more now. I hope he adds that to the new album or a little side EP. He made up a song for us. It started off being for the short people that could now see him because he was standing and playing guitar, but could only see the top of his head when he sat at the piano. Then he switched it up for the tall people who stood wherever they wanted and didn't care. But there was little love for the middle range of people and they had no room to complain because they have the perfect view. It was funny. After that, he played a new song called Why Don't You Try. It was a sad one. About him going off and if this person would have asked him to stay he would have. Later on the everyone exited the stage Encore like, then just Eric came back by himself at first. He did some chit chatting and explained how he was tired of breaking up with his girlfriend so many times so he wrote the song It Hasn't Been Long Enough and played it at a show she was at and it fixed the problem. Hahaha!!! A little after he started the song the band showed up on my side of the stage and almost had a panic look while coming back on stage. It could have just been me overthinking though. He did a couple covers after that and the band was giggling through Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. It was a blast and I loved hearing everyone sing along. Fun stuff. He closed the show with Rock And Roll which I guess no one has heard before... NOT. It was so loud. The whole room was singing along. Even Kristen!! The show was SO good. I can not wait to see them again. Afterwards Kris really wanted a picture with Eric so we waited. There were a few people that stuck around. Usually I really like to talk to Eric but I already had it in my head that I wasn't going to keep him because he has been going none stop for so long with Kelly. The girls ended up being like 7th in line. I never deal with lines when talking to Eric. I wait until almost everyone is gone then go in for a hug and a chat. This time I just couldn't. The line was getting me flustered I had the trip home on my mind. I wanted to make sure I said bye to Tone before I left too. It was an extremely short chat with Eric, "Hi can I have a hug? You were great!" type chat. And again I forgot to say Thank You. Hopefully he knows how thankful I am that he came out and performed near me. I'm pretty sure he knows how grateful I am that he is around and comes out gives me and my friends such a good time. OH! I met Elliott Blaufuss(?). He seemed really nice. I wanted to make sure I came up and said hello and introduced myself. He was really good guys. I was kinda weird at first, I didn't think I understood what was missing that they needed to add him, but afterwards I understood. He did an awesome job. Hopefully he'll stick around.
Well that's about all I have for right now. If I think of more I will add it. OH! We ended up making it home by 2:30am!! Woo! I did the whole drive there and prettymuch the whole way back. Kristen had to drive like the last 10 mins. I was going to pass the eff out. It was nuts. I hit that seat and felt my brain turn off. Weird. Next time hopefully I will see them in Houston again.
I love them all. Best group of men ever. Thank you gentlemen!!
